At TIS

TIS Athletics Program

The goal of the sports program at Tashkent International School (TIS) is to support our physical education program by encouraging students to become well-rounded, holistic, and physically active individuals. Sport is an ideal medium not only for building a healthy lifestyle, but also for fostering the development of the International Baccalaureate learner profile through both recreational and competitive situations.

At TIS our staff works hard to provide well-rounded, age-appropriate opportunities for students to participate in recreational and competitive activities.

Recreational

These occur within our activity trimesters and provide students with skill instruction  in a non-competitive situation. Focus is placed on developing the skills and attitudes necessary to participate in a variety of sporting activities. These opportunities will vary based on facility and resource availability. Students can sign up for new activities each trimester.

Competitive
Beginning in grade 4 we provide students with an opportunity to represent their school within a competitive age-appropriate situation. These occur coincide with the trimester activities calendar.

Grades 4 – 7 Boys’ and Girls’ Teams

Students will have an opportunity to play on a team coached by one of our senior students. These students will prepare their teams to participate in a tournament against local schools. All grade 4 – 7 students interested in playing will be included in this program, but must commit to the two one-hour practice times each week. Basketball will run in trimester one and football in trimester three.

Junior Varsity Boys’ & Girls’ Teams (Football & Basketball)

Students in grades 6 – 10 will have an opportunity to try-out to represent TIS on these teams. This is an extension activity to enable our more serious and competitive athletes an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge. Student will be selected by coaches and the athletic director based on skill, knowledge, passion, commitment, team work, leadership and work ethic. Try-outs will be announced through school announcements, the sports notice board, and the TIS Weekly News. Teams will compete in local leagues and tournaments and have approximately a 4.5-hour weekly commitment.

TIS student-athletes, coaches and parents of our athletes are asked to agree to the codes of conduct to help guide our involvement in competitive situations.

Local Competition
TIS has established and funded both a local football and basketball league. A variety of schools and clubs are invited to participate in an organized schedule of games culminating in a champion at both the varsity and junior varsity levels. The leagues are designed to enable students from TIS to compete against local teams within a respectful environment to help foster positive relationships. At our elementary and middle school levels we end our season with a play-day type tournament where teams will play a round robin format.

International Competition
Over the past several years we have developed a strong sporting tradition with a number of international schools throughout the Central Asia region. This year our varsity football teams will hopefully travel to Almaty, Kazakhstan, to participate in the Central Asia Soccer Classic. This year TIS is excited to host the 10th Annual CABC (Central Asian Basketball Classic) in March. We will need community involvement in the CABC so please stay tuned for more information and requests for your support.

Game Information
The TIS Weekly News will contain up-to-date information on our upcoming games. We will also post league schedules on this page. We hope you can come out and support our Owls!
